MagFy Privacy Policy

MagFy ("we", "us", "our") is a personal finance tracking app. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it's handled. MagFy is operated by Shubham Sharma, reachable at magfyapp@gmail.com.

1. Data we collect

Account information

Phone number or email address, used to create and sign in to your account.
We use one-time passwords (OTP) or a password for authentication — we never see or store your OTP/password in plain text (handled by our auth provider).

Financial data you enter

Expenses, income, categories, savings goals, recurring payments, and group split records. This is the core data the app is built to track.
This data is stored securely in our database and is never sold or shared with advertisers.

AI advisor conversations

If you use the "Ask your advisor" feature, the following is sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to generate a response: your monthly income, savings goal percentage, spend by category for recent months, category budget limits, savings goal names/target amounts/dates, recurring payment names and amounts (e.g. subscription names), your typed question, and the recent messages in that chat (for conversation context). We never send individual transaction line items, descriptions, or account/payment numbers.
This exchange is used only to answer your question and is not used to train OpenAI's models under our API agreement with them.

Purchases

If you buy Premium, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment card, billing address, or other payment details — we only receive confirmation that a purchase was made and its plan type, via our payments partner RevenueCat.

Biometric unlock

If you enable Face ID / Touch ID / fingerprint app-lock, biometric data never leaves your device and is never sent to us. It is handled entirely by your phone's operating system (Apple/Google).

Diagnostic data

Basic technical logs (crash reports, app performance) may be collected to keep the app reliable. These do not contain your financial data.

2. Why we collect it

To provide the core functionality of the app (tracking, budgeting, splits, goals, the AI advisor).
To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
To process and validate Premium purchases.
To improve app stability and fix bugs.

We do not use your financial data for advertising, and we do not sell your data to third parties.

We share the minimum necessary data with these service providers, each bound by their own privacy/security terms:

We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.

4. Data retention & deletion

Your data is retained as long as your account is active.
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app. This is irreversible and removes your profile, expenses, splits, goals, and usage records.
You can also clear all your data while keeping your account via Settings → Clear all data.

5. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. You can exercise most of these directly in the app (export via CSV, delete via Settings), or contact us at magfyapp@gmail.com for anything else.

6. Children's privacy

MagFy is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required by your country), and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures (encrypted transport, row-level access controls on our database, no plaintext password storage) to protect your data. No system is 100% secure, but we work to keep your financial information private.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated "Last updated" date, and significant changes will be communicated in-app.
